We all know that no ever marriage is perfect but if you can’t make it work then maybe the best thing to do would be to file for a divorce. Yes a divorce can cost you a great amount of money it all depends on how each person feels about it and what they want out of the divorce.
Divorce and the Paper work
First you will have to file for the paperwork at the court house and that can run you from $10 all the way up to $50 it just depends on which state you reside in and in what courhouse you decide to file in. It can also depend on what kind of divorce you would like and if both parties agree in it. Let’s say the other party doesn’t want the divorce then you might have to file more than once and that just means more money to spend to get it done.
Then when you turn it in you will get a court date which means court fees. Once you get that there is where you find out what you will need to go from there. Some people go and get special divorce attornies but we will get into that a little later on. Once you pay all your court fees then you will get another court date to where you can come in and contest why are you filling for a divorce and show the judge any evidence you have then.
Divorce Mediator and Attorneys
Now we will talk about the attorney or mediator, it might be smart to get a lawyer if the other party is going to fight you with the divorce. At Divorce Cures we believe in using a mediator as it will cost you less in the long run but mediators are not always the best option depending on the behavior of your spouse. Lawyers can run you a lot of money because most of them charge by the hour when you go in and talk to them about what you would like and then they also charge for each court apparence that you have. You are looking at spending around $200 to over $1,000 for a attorney. Not all the time it will be worth spending that kind of money but you might want to just to be on the safe side.
Then there is all the court fees some times the other party can make you pay their fee if your the reason for the divorce like for example if you were caught cheating then your other half can make you pay for your fees for being unfaithful and then you will have to pay for what the judge tells you to pay.
Then after it is all set and done if you have kids then you might have to end up paying child support and you might have to pay alimony for your spouse if the judge thinks the other party had a good case about the divorce and if the judge believes you should stay pay her and or pay for any bills she has or back bills that you guys might of had while you were together.
So all together the minimum cost for a divorce can run you anywhere between $500.00 to over $1,000.00 but given the couples assets, it can run much higher.
